In cooperation with our R&D, we have prepared some basic advice and tips on how to take the best possible care of your cycle wear. How to use, wash and store properly. Please remember that proper product care plays a crucial role in maintaining the performance and comfort of your kit. To ensure your Kalas gear stays in top condition and lasts for many seasons, it's essential to follow these guidelines. However, please don’t forget that these are general recommendations and the most accurate information on how to treat the product can always be found on the label of each garment itself.
Washing
Proper care of your cycling gear is essential to maintain its quality, performance, and durability. To ensure your gear lasts and continues to perform at its best, always follow the jersey washing instructions provided on the label of your garments. Adhering to these instructions will help prevent damage to the fabric, preserve the fit, and avoid fading or wear over time. Proper washing and drying techniques are particularly important for cycling clothing, as the materials are designed for performance and comfort, and improper care can reduce their effectiveness. Here's how to properly care for your cycling kit:
Pre – wash preparation
If your cycling clothing is very dirty, we recommend rinsing it as soon as possible to prevent damage of the material and stains on clothes.
Before washing, check all pockets if they are empty. Close all zips. Turning your cycling apparel inside out also limits abrasion on the fabric and is particularly hygienic for padded washing cycling shorts and tights. This ensures that the chamois pad, when on the outside, is cleaned more thoroughly.

Washing process
Wash your Kalas items in cold water (30°C or lower) to prevent fabric damage and colour fading. It’s also important to use a gentle cycle with low spinning speed to protect the fabric. Ideally, use a sport-specific washing program on your washing machine, as it is designed to care for technical fabrics. Washing at low temperatures and with a gentle cycle helps preserve the integrity of the material while maintaining its performance.
It’s also good to wash your gear with similar coloured garments to avoid unwanted colour transfer. We recommend washing your cycling gear separately from other laundry to prevent damage and contamination from different fabrics. If you need to wash your kit with other items, we have designed a special laundry wash bag that we recommend using. This bag helps protect your cycling wear from friction and damage during the wash.
Be especially careful when washing items with Velcro (like gloves). Always close the Velcro properly, and if possible, wash these items separately to prevent the Velcro from catching on other fabrics, which could cause damage.
Always use a mild detergent specifically designed for sportswear. These detergents are formulated to clean technical fabrics without damaging their structure or properties. Fabric softeners and bleach should be avoided, as they can break down the fibers, reduce elasticity, and impair the moisture-wicking and breathability features of your gear. By using the right detergent and avoiding harsh chemicals, you ensure that your cycling wear remains in top condition for longer.

Drying
Hang your cycling clothes to air dry when it is possible. Try to avoid using a tumble dryer as the high heat can ruin the elasticity and structure of the fabric. Air dry is the gentlest way for all kinds of fabrics and the shape of the clothes is not deformed in this way. We recommend you air dry your kit whenever possible, however avoid unnecessary prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to minimise UV damage.
Restoration of the water repellent layer
If your garment contains a water repellent layer, it is natural that after certain amount of washing and using in extreme weather the water repellent layer must be renewed.
Recommended method is spray it on damp garment after washing (be careful, your garment should be damp, no wet, so after removing from the machine shake off any excess water). With the spray you can apply water repellent layer on specific spot on your garment that needs to be refresh or on whole garment if it is needed. It should be applied only to the outside of the item. After application hang your garment to dry.

Friction from Backpacks
Frequent use of a backpack while cycling can accelerate the wear of your jersey, especially in the back and shoulder areas. The constant friction and pressure from shoulder straps can damage the fabric’s surface, causing pilling or thinning over time. If you often ride with a backpack, we recommend choosing models with smooth straps and avoiding excessive loads that put additional strain on the material. Regular inspection of these areas can help you detect early signs of wear and prevent further damage.
Avoid Overstretching
Be gentle when you are putting on and taking off your cycle wear. Overstretching can damage the fabric and seams. When dressing up jerseys that feature silicone gripper sleeves, it’s beneficial to fold the sleeve ends outward before sliding your arms through. After your arms are fully inside the sleeves, fold the grippers back onto your arms to secure them effectively. This method is equally useful for bibs.
For best results, pull jerseys onto your arms by gradually moving the sleeve upward with gentle, short motions near the sleeve's end. Avoid tugging from the chest or shoulder area to prevent stretching and potential damage. This recommendation also applies to wearing bib shorts. Avoid pulling the bib straps over your shoulders until the bibs are fully positioned on your legs also. Also be careful and do not overfill jersey pocketswith too many items.

Proper maintenance and mindful use are key to ensuring your Kalas cycling gear remains comfortable, functional, and visually appealing season after season. By following these recommendations, you not only protect your investment but also contribute to the longevity and performance of your cycling wardrobe. Treat your garments with care — they are built to perform, but only if they are cared for properly.
